DAY 01

Arrival in Luang Prabang

Arrival in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Your driver will pick you up at the airport and then drop you at your hotel. Free time to rest.

DAY 02

Luang Prabang by bike, its temples and markets

Cultural tour of the city by bike with the guide: morning market, Royal Palace, Vat Mai, Vat Sene, Vat Xiengthong, Vat Visoun. Walk through the historic sector, local markets and shops. Climb up the 328 steps of Mount Phousi to admire the magnificent panorama. Visit of the night market in the main street.

DAY 03

Hiking at KuangSi waterfalls

At sunrise, volunteers can attend the traditional ceremony of alms giving to the monks (without guide). Departure by private minivan on a countryside road to northern Laos. The mountain landscapes are breathtaking. Meetings with different ethnicities such as Tay Lue, Khamu, Tay Dam and Hmong. The guide will bond Western and Asian cultures. Arrival in Oudomxay in the late afternoon.

DAY 04 & 05

Cruise and camping on the Mekong

Beautiful day cruising on the Mekong in a private traditional slow boat. On the way, visit of the Pak Ou caves with thousands of Buddha statues, and a village where locals master the art of weaving. Arrival at a wild beach on the banks of the Mekong to set the tents by late afternoon. Setting of the campfire and barbecue, swimming, fishing, ... Unforgettable evening! The next day, on the way to Luang Namtha. Fabulous landscapes and visit of Tay Lue, Khamu, Yang and Lantèn ethnic villages.

DAY 06, 07 & 08

Ethnic trekking and kayaking in Luang Namtha

Visit of the Luang Namtha market to buy food. Hiking day on the trails of hunters. The summit of Phu Pan mountain offers a fantastic panorama. Set up the camp for the night in the jungle and cook with your guide. The next day, the trek continues in primary jungle and along the river to a Khamu village. Evening in the village with the inhabitants. Then, kayaking day on the Nam Ha river. Rapids appear from time to time, then it becomes a bit more technical and much more fun. Visit of a village of the Lanten ethnic group where spouses have their eyebrows shaved. Way back to Luang Namtha.

DAY 09 & 10

Northern tribes encounters

The adventure continues on dirt tracks with fabulous landscapes through rice fields and terracotta kilns of the Tay Lue tribe. Visit of local markets and villages of Phouxang, Akha, Tay Yang, Hmong and Tay Lue ethnic groups. Dinner and stay overnight in a local house in a Tay Lue village. The next day, on-road transfer to the small town of Muang Khoua. Visit of Akha, Hmong, Tay Dam and Khamu villages. Arrival at Muang Khua in the late afternoon. Walk in this small town very little visited by tourists, and crossing of a suspended bridge over the Nam Phak River.

Itinerary : Luang Namtha – NaMor – Bountai - Muang Khoua

DAY 11 & 12

Boating on the NamOu river, meetings and rural life

Morning boat trip on the NamOu River. These amazing landscapes make all the splendor of Laos: bamboo sheaves, mountains and vertiginous cliffs, ... Visit of a weaving village and walk in the hinterland by taking a farmer track that leads to a Hmong village. Night in the village. The next day, hiking on a wide track in the heart of the Laotian countryside, visit of a Tay Lue weaving village and way back to Luang Prabang.

DAY 13

Immersion in an elephant sanctuary

On-road transfer to Sayaboury for an extraordinary experience: live 2 days in an elephant sanctuary. Visit of the camp, the infrastructure of the nursery and hospital, boat trip on the lake, walk in the forest with pachyderms, ... Visit of the museum, swim in the lake, canoe riding ... Discovery of the elephants everyday's life and their relationships with the mahouts, interaction with them. Night in the camp.

DAY 14 & 15

Vang Vieng discovery

Morning with elephants: morning bath, observation of these huge animals in a semi-natural setting ... Afternoon on the way to Vang Vieng. This small town is located in an exceptional setting. An hour long pirogue ride on the Nam Song river. The next day, visit of the Tham Chang, one of the largest caves in the region. Then, departure for Vientiane, the capital of Laos. On the way, visit of a fish market, Nam Ngeum Lake and a salt extraction site.

DAY 16

Visit of the capital and flight to the South

Visit of the Laotian capital and its many temples: the Vat Sisaket, the Temple of Emerald Buddha HoPraKeo, the famous Stupa of That Luang, the Vientiane Patuxay Arch of Triumph and the Vat Simeuang, which is the religiously animated temple of the city. Free time before the transfer to airport, domestic flight to the south. Arrival in Pakse and check in at the hotel.

DAY 17

Khmer temple of Vat Phou

Get on board of a local boat to go down the Mekong to Champasak, the ancient capital of the south. Visit of the fabulous site of Vat Phou, a temple on the mountain dated from the pre-Angkorian period. Departure for the extreme south of Laos in the region of the 4000 islands. It's due its name because the Mekong becomes extremely wide and hosts many islands. On the way, visit of the pre-Angkorian site named Vat Tomô. Arrival at Done Khong.

DAY 18

Discovery of the 4000 islands

Local boat cruise to the peaceful island of Done Khone, formerly one of the terminal of the only railway line built in Laos. Walk or tuk-tuk (local vehicle) transfer to the waterfalls of Lippi (or Somphamith). Then, cruise on the Mekong to try to see the freshwater dolphins.

DAY 19

Gigantic waterfalls of the Mekong

Visit of the largest waterfalls of the Mekong "Khone Phaphèng" in the southern place of the country. Here, the Mekong is roaring and sumptuous. On-road transfer in minivan to reach the plateau of Bolavens with the beautiful landscapes of mountains of wild nature and fields of coffee. On the way, visit of villages of bamboo weavers and mask sculptors. At the end of the day, arrival at the waterfall of Tad Fane (about 200m high).

DAY 20

Trekking into the mysterious Bolaven plateau

Beginning of trek through the coffee and tea plantations. Then, dive in the middle of the jungle towards the Tad Gneuang and Dane Sinexay waterfalls. This immersion in tropical nature will lead you to unique and little explored points of view. In the afternoon, visit of ethnic villages and arrival at the Tad Lo waterfalls where elephants sometimes bath.

DAY 21

Village of artisans and departure from Laos

Meeting day with the Katu ethnic weavers. Discovery of local weaving techniques and opportunity to buy unique hand-made scarves by the local women. The next stop will be at the beautiful waterfalls of Phaxouam, before crossing fields of rubber trees and other crops. Way back to Pakse early afternoon and transfer to the airport for your departure from Laos.
