Once upon a time, there is a story saying that before Buddhism, there was the son of a rich peasant called Thammabane (Thammaphala). He was very clever man and understood the animals and birds languages. Thammabane spent most time traveling to teach morality and knowledge to citizen it made all the people respect him. Phayakabinlaphom the god of the sky at the wisest when he heard that Thammabane is powerful boy he wanted to make a competition about the knowledge. He came down to the world and set up 3 questions for Thammabane to answer. The first question was where is the tint (bright and lustrous) of our body in the morning? The second question was where is the tint (bright and lustrous) of our body in the afternoon? And the last question was where is the tint (bright and lustrous) of our body in the evening? If Thammabane couldn’t answer the questions, Kabinlaphom will cut Thammabane’s head on the other hand if he could answer the question, Kabinlaphom will cut his head by himself. Kabinlaphom gave Thammabane answer within 7 days.
He thought and thought but nothing could come out, then 3 days passed. He escaped for a long distance. he was very tired and slept under a big tree. On its branches the couple eagles talked in the bird language and the female eagle asked what kind of food will we have for tomorrow? The male eagle replied my dear we are going to have Thammabane’s meat for tomorrow. The female eagle asked why? The male eagle told her that Thammabane could not be able to answer Kabinlaphom’s questions and he would be killed. The female eagle asked what are those questions? Male eagle told her about the questions and its answer that the tint of the body in the morning is the face so people clean their face in the morning. The second answer is the breast so people take a bath in the day time and the last one is the feet so people wash the feet before going bed. Thammabane remembered the answer then came back to answer the questions in the following day.
Before cutting of Kabinlaphom’s head, he told his seven daughters that he will cut his head for worship Thammabane and also gave advice to keep his head because if his head fall down the land, the land will be fired. If throwing his head into the air, the drought will become there would be no rains and if throwing to the ocean, the ocean will become dry. So his daughter took golden plate to keep their father head placed it in the cave of (Kantoumaly) every year the girls made each turn to water their father head and place it back in Phasoumane Mountain.
