Where to stay in LuangPrabang? Difficult question regarding the several possibilities for accommodations. This jewel of Southeast Asia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers many guesthouses and hotels at all qualities and prices. There are many sites such as Trip Advisor, Booking or Agoda, collecting the opinion of former customers, but they are not always very objective ... Thus, how to find your place to sleep in all this mess? Low budget

SUNRISE RIVERSIDE POOL HOSTEL (backpacker)

We will not hide it; this place is dedicated to backpackers. It offers a great value for those on a budget. The location is ideal, although at first it can be a bit difficult to find. It is located near the Utopia, at the end of a quiet alley, and especially on the banks of the Nam Khan River. It is 5 minutes’ walk from the night market.

It is clean and offers nights in dormitory with shared bathroom and air conditioning, breakfast included. There is a large terrace with superb views of the river that encourages to relax and a pool to cool off when it's too hot. The location is exceptional.

Night in 8-beds dorm, around 6 USD (high season rate)


Small, cozy hotel in a family atmosphere. They like to describe their accommodation as "halfway between a hotel and a guest house ... with a French touch". The Cold River is ideally located in a quiet street 10 minutes’ walk from the historic city center, but enjoys a prime location next to the NamKhan River. The rooms are clean, with private bathroom and air conditioning. They are furnished in an elegant and rustic way. Some even have a balcony overlooking the river.

Average Budget – charming hotels

It must be said that Luang Prabang is full of beautiful hotels, we chose these three because we work with them and appreciate them very much.

Probably the favorite hotel of the team ... It's on the other side of the Nam Khan River. This makes it a bit far from the historic center in the green season. But the rest of the year, a bamboo bridge is built on the river and you can reach the peninsula by walking 10 minutes.

The main asset of this establishment is its large tropical garden overlooking the river. It is divided into several bungalows of different sizes all offering views of the surrounding nature. Beautiful restaurant terrace with views and pool. Beautiful rooms ... natural materials, mixing modernity and Laotian tradition. Breakfast included, lao massage available ...

Classic room, around 79 USD (high season rate)

The name Dalabua means "Lotus Princess", which perfectly describes this charming hotel registered at the UNESCO world heritage. It is located in one of the most peaceful places of Luang Prabang, far from the hustle and bustle of the peninsula, only 3 minutes walk from the historical center. This place has 40 rooms in different houses scattered in a tropical environment. All rooms are furnished in an elegant blend of traditional and contemporary Laotian design, with all the modern comfort. The spa and pool are ideal for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.

Villa Maydou is a boutique hotel, next to Wat Meuna pagoda, near the old Nam Khan River Bridge. The wish of the owners was to create a traditional village atmosphere, where the buildings fit harmoniously into their beautiful tropical gardens and with the other buildings of the "village". Villa Maydou has 29 large rooms spread over five exceptional houses of traditional Lao architecture, two of which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The saltwater pool, the SPA, and the tropical garden bar are the ideal places to relax after a day of sightseeing or to laze in the afternoon.

High budget – luxury hotel

It offers a breathtaking panoramic view on the city of Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is a jewel of Southeast Asia. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has inherited traditional Lao architecture, colonial and Buddhist architecture. There are temples at every street corner and monks in saffron dress are seen daily. It radiates a strong spirituality and a relaxed atmosphere cradled by the rhythms of the Nam Khan River and the Mekong River, protected by the mountains.

This small charming and authentic town is very popular in the high season (October to late March), thus we advise you to book several months prior your stay, 5 or 6 months to be sure to have a room available.
