Day without guide

Luang Prabang, its temples and markets

You will start the cultural tour of the city by bike with your guide. You will pass by the morning market, then the Royal Palace and temples Vat Mai, Vat Sene, Vat Xiengthong and Vat Visoun. Lunch at a local restaurant before enjoying the shops in the city's shopping street. At the end of the afternoon, you will climb up the 328 steps of Mount Phousi which will lead you to the highest point of view of the city, offering a splendid panorama.

Hiking at Kuang Si waterfalls

At sunrise, volunteers can attend the traditional ceremony of alms giving to the monks (without guide). Departure by private minivan on a countryside road to northern Laos. The mountain landscapes are breathtaking. Meetings with different ethnicities such as Tay Lue, Khamu, Tay Dam and Hmong. The guide will bond Western and Asian cultures. Arrival in Oudomxay in the late afternoon.

Activities : 2h30 to 3h hiking

Short hike in the mountains

Departure from Luang Prabang by private minivan on the northern roads to reach the Nongkhiaw area. Visit of Tay Lue, Tay Dam and Khamu ethnic villages. A mountain trail through millet fields and rice fields offers breathtaking panoramas. Arrival at the Hmong village in the late afternoon. Dinner and stay overnight in the village.

Jungle trek into Hmong country

The trekking day begins with a crests trail and crossing of millet fields cultivated by the tribes living at altitude. 3 hours of climbing to reach a Hmong farm isolated from everything. Epic jungle trek and bamboo forest offering magnificent views above the surrounding mountains and a passage through a chaos of rocks. Arrival at a Hmong farmers village. Dinner and stay overnight in the village.

Activities : 6-7h hiking (1000m downhill)

Immersion in the villages and rice field hike

Way down the mountain on a small countryside trail to the NamOu River. Traditional wooden boat cruise to a small village of weavers. Then, way down the river to dock in the village of Muang Ngoi. 1h30 walk in rice fields punctuated by karst mountains. Visit of the ThamKang Cave and arrival by late afternoon in a village of the Tay Ead tribe. Dinner and stay overnight in the village.

Boat trip on the NamOu River

Morning walk in the heart of the Laotian countryside, to reach the traditional boat and go down the NamOu river until Nongkhiaw. Way back to Luang Prabang by minivan. Arrival by the end of the afternoon.

Activities : 1h30 walking + 50mn cruising

Cruise on the Mekong and night on a beach

Transfer from your hotel to the pier at 1pm. Superb cruise on the Mekong in a private traditional slow boat with a guide. In the middle of the afternoon, arrival on a wild beach of white sand. Settlement of the camp, swimming in the Mekong, fishing with a net, ... Then comes the time to fetch firewood, decapsulate the first beers (sold in the boat) and enjoy the skewers.

Activities: 2h cruising + net fishing

PakOu Sanctuary Caves and Lao Cooking Class

The early birds can admire the sun rising above the Mekong. Then breakfast on board of the boat. On your way to Luang Prabang, visit of the PakOu caves hosting thousands of Buddhas statues, then break in a village specialized in Lao Whiskey. Arrival in Luang Prabang around 11am. Rest of the day free, until your cooking class. You will learn all the secrets of the tastiest local recipes!

Activities: 2h cruising + English cooking class (not private)

Immersion in an elephant sanctuary

On-road transfer in minivan to the elephant conservation Center of Sayaboury. Visit of the camp, the infrastructure of the nursery and hospital, boat trip on the lake, walk in the forest with the pachyderms, ... Visit of the museum, swim in the lake, canoe ride ... Discovery of the everyday life of elephants and their relations with mahouts, interaction with animals. Dinner and stay overnight at the camp.

Immersion in an elephant sanctuary

Morning bath with pachyderms. Meeting and walk with elephants in the forest. After drinking, the elephants will go to the socialization zone. Follow the local guide around the perimeter to learn more about their biology and social structure. This rare opportunity to observe them in a natural environment is a unique experience. Free time to relax, boat ride and way back to Luang Prabang.
